Jim Weber is the founder of Weber Advertising & Marketing, Inc., a mid-size advertising agency which has been successfully operating in Lancaster, PA since 1996. During that time, he and his wife, Jennifer, have also managed "The Cookie Sale to Combat World Hunger" which annually provides millions of meals for school-aged children in some of the world’s poorest countries. While providing food was good, Jim learned that providing opportunity and eliminating poverty was better, so he created the Economic Mission model. This led him to team with the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition in Praville, Haiti and build a textile factory to provide jobs and opportunity. Price and quality remained high allowing the factory to compete in the global marketplace. As the number of employees grew, both Jim and the sisters were pleasantly surprised by the improvement in the quality of life for the local economy. Jim now wants to export his Economic Mission concept to other impoverished communities where opportunity will make a difference.
Now… really about Jim Weber.
As a cradle Catholic, Jim was an altar boy, Boy Scout and a mediocre athlete. As a kid, Jim was afraid of failure and was even more afraid of the demands that success would bring. That changed when he learned he could sell and he was pretty good at that. In college, Jim stopped attending Mass, started smoking weed, and developed a passion for following the Grateful Dead. Jim has fully participated in all of the 7 deadly sins and has maybe even created other deadly sins along the way. After getting dumped by his girlfriend in the late 80s, he decided to change his life for the better. During this time, his mom was praying fervently for his conversion. Jim met Jennifer who helped him along the way and they married on the same day Go for Gin won the Kentucky Derby. The best part of leaving Catholicism was returning to the faith as a Committed Catholic. By leaning on the Eucharist and Divine Mercy, Jim wants to become a better version of himself each and every day. Jim sees conversion as a verb instead of a noun and strives to make continuous progress. Today, Jim studies philosophy and is draws inspiration from the Bible, Buddha and Stoic philosophers like Marcus Aurelius as well as contemporary thinkers like Mother Teresa, Francis Chan and Thomas Sowell. Jim prioritizes values and virtue over blind legalistic adherence. Jim is far from perfect and he is not concerned about being politically correct. Doing the will of God is important to Jim and that is why he is so committed to combating poverty for the poorest of the poor. Although Jim still listens to the Grateful Dead, he stopped the weed habit in the 80s.
