Eric Yang

2023 Catholic Man of the Year

Dr. Yang is an adjunct lecturer at the Josephinum and Columbus State Community College and is an active member of his parish and the Knights of Columbus.

His current parish activities include membership on leadership teams for the men’s spirituality ministry, the core planning team for Eucharistic Adoration and the North Columbus Serra Club.

In the past, Dr. Yang has been part of parish council, the adult enrichment committee, the planning committee for the diocesan Catholic Men’s Conference and the parish’s multilingual Holy Hour, often leading a decade of the rosary in the Philippine language of Tagalog with his wife of seven years, Josephine.

With the Knights of Columbus, he is district deputy for District 36, secretary of the Columbus diocesan chapter, pilot for Ohio District 3 of the fourth-degree Knights and Columbian Martyrs Assembly 2380, and a past grand knight, trustee and faith activity director of Saint Peter Council 11216.

Dr. Yang came with his family to the United States from the Philippines in the 1970s. He earned an undergraduate degree in biology/pre-medicine and Asian studies in 1987 at Seton Hall University in New Jersey and a doctorate in biology at The Ohio State University in 1992.

In 1976 David Bianconi graduated from The Ohio State University with a BS in Business Administration, majoring in accounting. With the experience of overseeing several businesses and having an entrepreneurial drive, Dave Bianconi founded Progressive Medical in 1986. For the first 12 years Progressive Medical grew an average of 85% each year, and by 2010 achieved sales of over $300,000,000 in revenue and over 500 employees.

While leading Progressive Medical, David Bianconi has been the recipient of many business recognitions such as, Ohio SBA Small Businessperson of the Year, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, the very first recipient of the OSU Fisher College of Business Entrepreneurship & Innovation Award.  In addition, in 2001, Progressive Medical was inducted into the Inc. 500 Hall of Fame as one of only 81 companies since 1982 to have made the annual list of the 500 fastest growing companies in the United States … 5 years in a row.

In December of 2010, Dave Bianconi sold a majority interest in Progressive Medical to a company that Progressive had been working with during the previous 5 years to position Progressive Medical as the absolute leader in the service segment of the Workers' Compensation Industry on a national basis.

The result of this transaction has allowed Dave and Michele, his wife of 42 years, to focus more time on their family of 4 children and 7 grandchildren.  Dave & Michele have created benevolent foundations at The Columbus Foundation and The Catholic Foundation to help fund many of their charitable causes, such as The Brian Muha Foundation, Junior Achievement, Catholic Social Services, Catholic Youth Summer Camp, The Red Cross, St. Paul Outreach, PDHC, Mommies Matter, and many other worthy causes.

Dave and Michele have been members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church since moving to Westerville in 1987.
