Born and raised in Mexico, Archbishop Gustavo has been on a journey to say the least! In 1975 he became a professed member of the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit and has kept their charism. He was sent by his order to the U.S. in 1980, where he worked closely with the immigrant community. He was ordained a priest on June 22,1984. In more than 38 years, he has served as a priest ministering to many from different backgrounds in Fresno, L.A., Oregon, and in 2003 was named auxiliary bishop of Chicago. He served as Major Superior for his order for 4 years and was elected Provincial in 2003. Gustavo García-Siller was named Archbishop of San Antonio by Pope Benedict XVI on October 14, 2010. He currently serves the Cultural Diversity Committee on Hispanic Affairs, African American Affairs, Committee on Hispanics and the Liturgy, and the Committee on Migration, as well as Chair for Region 7 for the USCCB.
