Ben grew up as the youngest of 10 children on a commercial poultry, swine and grain farming operation. He and his wife, Lynn have five children, four of whom reside in Lewis Center with them; one of whom lost a battle with a rare disease at birth in 2013, and awaits them at home in the heaven. Ben has written two books on grief, suffering and joy, both written from personal experiences over the last two decade through his own struggles with two forms of cancer, and various other trials and loss in their lives.
He and his wife Lynn believe in service to the community as a key part of their Christian life with Ben serving on the Board at Damascus and actively in international missions work in Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania; while Lynn serves actively at their children’s private Christian High School as the Head Volleyball Coach and assistant athletic director. Their family is also active in service in several ministries at St. John Neumann Church in Sunbury, Ohio.
