Looking for a community with a professional focus grounded in Catholic values? All young adults in their 20s and 30s are invited to join the Portland Chapter of Young Catholic Professionals for a special panel discussion on the virtue of fortitude. We are thrilled to welcome our panelists:



  • Miriam Marston, Director of Faith Formation at St. Anthony's in Tigard, consecrated virgin, author, musician, and radio show host, 
  • William Toffler, co-founder of Holy Family Catholic Clinic and Doctor of Family Medicine, OB, and newborn care,
  • Chris Wojnar, Director of Product at Danner Boots, and Marriage Prep teacher at St. Michael's in Portland.


The event will include a classy social reception with drinks and appetizers, a spiritual reflection, a panel on the virtue of fortitude with our 3 guests, and table discussions. Guests are encouraged to wear elevated business casual.

More About Our Panelists


Miriam Marston


Originally from Alexandria, VA, Miriam Marston is a Portland-based writer, speaker and musician. She has released several albums and books, and presents on a variety of topics pertaining to Christian life and culture. Since 2020, she has hosted the weekly show "Blazing the Trail" on Mater Dei Radio. 


Miriam serves as the Director of Faith Formation at St. Anthony's in Tigard. Prior to that, she served as the coordinator for the Institute for Catholic Life & Leadership at the Archdiocese of Portland. Miriam was consecrated by Archbishop Sample in 2020, and she is so grateful to live out the vocation of consecrated virginity in the Archdiocese of Portland.


One of her greatest joys is being an aunt to 7 wonderful nieces and nephews, who live in Tigard, OR and Neuchatel, Switzerland. She is fluent in French and will happily watch many hours of soccer in her spare time.


After receiving her MA in Theology and Ministry from Boston College in 2010, she worked for the Theological Institute at St. John's Seminary in Boston until 2013. Prior to her graduate studies, she lived and worked in Oxford, UK and then moved to Boston, where she worked in the canon law office for the Archdiocese of Boston. She also studied history and religion at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.


Chris Wojnar


Chris Wojnar is the Director of Product for Danner Boots. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Chris graduated from Marquette University with an Industrial Engineering degree. He has spent half his life in Wisconsin and half in Oregon! 


Chris has been happily married to his wife, Melissa, for 16 years. Together they are raising three young boys who fill up their time and hearts: Luke and twins Jacob and Jackson. Chris and Melissa are lay members of the Saint John Society, and currently lead Marriage Preparation courses at St. Michael's Catholic Church in downtown Portland. Chris also previously served as the youth minister for St. Anthony's in SE Portland for 8 years.


Chris is the Director of Product for Danner Boots, where he has worked for 26 years. Founded in 1932, Danner is a company that specializes in shoes offering hiking, hunting, work, military, and law enforcement boots.


William Toffler


Dr. William Toffler is Professor Emeritus of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University, where he practiced the full scope of family medicine and taught medical students and residents for more than 34 years. He is co-founder of the Holy Family Catholic Clinic, the first fully Catholic medical practice in Portland, Oregon. 


Dr. Toffler is also co-founder and National Director of Physicians for Compassionate Care Education Foundation (PCCEF), a non-profit organization that promotes compassionate care for severely ill patients without sanctioning or assisting their suicide. PCCEF physicians affirm an ethic based on the principle that all human life is inherently of value and that the physicians' roles are to heal illness, alleviate suffering, and provide comfort for the sick and dying. He is committed to defending the long-standing, medical prohibition against doing harm. 


Dr. Toffler has also been a member of the Physicians Resource Council at Focus on the Family for more than 20 years. He has frequently been invited to speak about medical ethical issues at both national and international conferences. Dr. Toffler also speaks on US television and radio, including NPR, 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, as well as international media in Canada, Australia, the UK, and Japan. He has 7 children and 24 grandchildren!
