MEET OUR PANELISTS

Dr. Erika Barber is a physician and a professor at George Fox University, teaching pathophysiology for the Medical Science Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Barber grew up in southern Oregon as an evangelical Protestant. She studied economics at Trinity University in San Antonio, and went to medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She and twenty-one other medical students spent much of their first summer in Calcutta, India, working with the Missionaries of Charity there in a leper colony, orphanage, and home for the dying and destitute. While in medical school, she met her husband Nick Barber (who has also been a YCP panelist!) at a local Presbyterian church, and they married halfway through medical school.

After graduating, they moved to Portland to do a three year internal medicine residency together at Providence Vincent Hospital, and then moved back to Nebraska to do further training in a geriatric and oncology fellowship. It was there that they began to read more about Catholicism and were both eventually confirmed in the Catholic Church at Easter seven years ago. They have four children, ages 9 -14 and live in Dundee, Oregon, where they are members of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Dr. Barber enjoys sports with her family, making kombucha, reading good books, and leading a fitness class called High Fitness. She sees her vocation as a heart cultivator for her children, a soul encourager for her husband, and a seeker of Him in whose image she is made.

Eve Bell is the Director of Workplace Advisory at Human Investing, serving institutional and corporate clients and their employees as a retirement plan specialist and investment advisor.

She is a dedicated parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church in NW Portland, where for many years she has served in numerous ministries including Pastoral Council and OCIA.

Eve and her husband have two young children and, outside of professional pursuits, she stays (extra) busy with involvement in various activities, including leading a book club and helping out at her family's winery, Lady Hill Winery (which you may know also know as one of YCP's favorite event locations!).

Fr. John Henderson is the Pastor at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard - which is where our event will be held, and where Fr. John will also celebrate Mass for us at 6 pm! Fr. John was ordained as a priest on June 30, 1984, in the vibrant city of Detroit, Michigan. He pursued his academic journey at Loyola University in Chicago, where he received his degree in communications. Deepening his understanding of spirituality, he ventured to the historic city of Rome, immersing himself in the rich teachings of the Gregorian University and obtaining his license in Spirituality.

The year 1994 marked a significant chapter in his life as he made a transformative move to Oregon. Embracing the Pacific Northwest, he embraced the communities of Tillamook, Corvallis, and Tigard with his desire to pastor God's people. Throughout his journey, he also undertook the role of vocation director, collaborating closely with Archbishop Vlazny to nurture and guide individuals on their discernment to priesthood.

Fr. John finds pure joy in his calling as a priest and pastor. His heart resonates with the spirit of service, as he wholeheartedly dedicates himself to the uplifting and support of the people of God, fostering a sense of unity and faith within the community he serves. He focuses his parish life on prayer, faith formation, youth ministry and social justice.
